1] Rahma Planting Blitz - Friday November 2, 4:30 PM til Dark

Red Anjou PearWe've got a fall plant order in from Miller Nurseries this week, and want to get them in the ground soon. Let's get out to the forest garden (3100 South Salina St) on Friday November 2 after work from 4:30 pm til dark and get this done. Bring a shovel, trowel if you've got them.

Along with the list here, we've still got tons of daffodil bulbs as well, so everyone will be able to get their hands in the soil.  And whatever daffodil we don't get planted will be available to volunteers to take home with them.  Also, if we're lucky and there is no frost between now and then, tomatoes, herbs, and more will be open for harvesting.

1 Dwarf North Star Cherry, 1 Nectarest Dwarf Nectarine, 1 Dwarf Hybrid Red Anjou Pear, 1 Shiro Dwarf Plum, 1 Plumcot, and 2 Reliance Dwarf Peach.

2] Co-Create a User's Guide Zine for Rahma Forest Garden
Zine FlyerLooking for cultural creatives, or just those who want to learn more through teaching, to choose a topic and create a page in our Rahma Forest Garden User's Guide Zine. Are you someone who could do that?  View the flyer, choose a topic and reserve it by letting us know what you chose, get pen to paper, or pencil or crayon, or marker, or paint, or collage, whetever moves you, as long as we get across how to use the plants in the garden.  Finished zines will be distributed for free door-to-door in the neighborhood surrounding the forest garden and in the lobby of the Rahma Free Health Clinic.

3] Alchemical's Statement Against Fracking

Anti-Fracking Statement

The concern for safe and healthy environments is an ongoing trial for many of us, both personally and publicly.  The movement to ban horizontal hydraulic fracturing has been going on for years now in New York, and is still in need of energy and a louder voice.  The Glossary Link Alchemical Nursery has until recently, not provided a formal statement in regard to hydro-fracking, not out of any question of our position, nor of a lack of interest, but simply due to a lack of priority.  We give thanks and appreciation to the many individual activists and groups and organizations that are, and have been, leading this fight.  Individuals within the Alchemical Nursery have often engaged in local efforts and actions to support the ban, and now have made the effort as an organization to lend our voice to this ongoing struggle with our anti-fracking position statement which was originally released to the public at the screening of END"CIV earlier in October.  View the statement at:

TRUCK FARM, 2011, 48 min
Tuesday, November 13, 5:30 to 7:30 pm, & Monday, November 19, 7:00 to 9:00 pm
Somewhere on the streets of Brooklyn, New York, a tiny farm-on-wheels is growing in the back of a 1986 Dodge pick-up truck. Filmmaker Ian Cheney planted his truck farm in 2009 after moving to New York City and realizing there was no space to grow food. The 1/1000th acre farm started as an experiment, using rooftop farming irrigation techniques to grow a variety of plants including parsley, broccoli, lettuce, tomatoes, and basil. The miniature yield is not enough to support large-scale consumption; however, the truck farm serves as a portable educational tool for urban students and a tribute to edible innovation. In just two years, the original project has expanded into 25 mobile truck farms across the country. Each truck in this “Truck Farm Fleet” is unique, but together this moving force is teaching people that growing food can be fun, easy, and rewarding despite a scarcity of land.
