Why?

  Fire

Fire represents the first operation in alchemical transformation, called Calcination, which represents the destruction of the ego and our attachments to material possessions. Calcination is usually a natural humbling process as we are gradually assaulted and overcome by the trials and tribulations of life, though it can also be a deliberate surrender of our pride, igniting the fire of introspection and self-evaluation. In Society, the Calcination is expressed in the lives of revolutionaries and other warriors who try to overthrow the status quo. On the Planetary level, it is the Fire of creation, the formation of a livable environment from molten matter and volcanic ashes. (ref: http://www.deeptrancenow.com/exc3_calcination.htm)

Invoking the element of alchemical fire in our work answers the question, 'why?', and begins the process of the alchemical transformation of 'prima materia' to alchemical 'gold' - the substances and qualities of life that make it worth living.

We are doing this work because we want to make life in our cities enjoyable, enriching, healthy, and environmentally sound. We see that a great transformation needs to take place, and that people are the actors needed to bring that change about. We are willing to perform the necessary activities to speed that process along as best we can. It's all about transformation and activity.
