Just a note to update the results of the "Syracuse Artists & Musicians For Haitian Relief Benefit Concert" from Friday January 22nd. We were able to donate a total of $725.00 that we received in donations at the event - from door, drink, and t-shirt donations. Half went to Partners in Health and half went to Permacultura American Latina .
A message from each organization:
PARTNERS IN HEALTH
"Thank you for supporting Haiti relief efforts
Partners in Health is a non-profit organization that has been on the ground in Haiti for more than 20 years. They operate world-renowned clinics and health care programs with 120 doctors and nearly 500 nurses and nursing assistants in eight sites across Haiti.
The earthquake has devastated Haiti, and Partners In Health’s work is needed more than ever. Right now they need our help to get supplies, equipment, and additional staff to the people most in need. We can make an impact if we act together. Please help us spread the word about all of the work that needs to be done in Haiti."
PERMACULTURA AMERICAN LATINA
"Thank you for supporting a sustainable future for our world! PAL supports grassroots sustainable development initiatives and low impact economic practices in poor and indigenous communities throughout the world, with a focus on Latin America and Africa. PAL project centers build schools, train teachers and community organizers, establish sustainable reference centers, demonstration farms, develop third world technology, manage indigenous seed banks, manage microcredit lending programs, author and translate books, commercialize local products, and further the
permaculture network throughout Latin America.
PAL’s educational program has reached out to tens of thousands. Our students and projects have won national awards in Brazil from Banco do Brasil, Amazon Technology Prize and the Rolex Award in Ecuador, Santa Claudia Architecture Prize, appeared on Spanish CNN and have received numerous community service awards. In May of 2007 PAL organized and sponsored the IPC8-the 8th International Permaculture Conference and Convergence in Sao Paolo, Brazil. In March of 2009 HRH Prince Charles made a site visit to PAL’s IPA center in Manaus, Brazil to study our models of sustainability…and you are helping to insure that our work continues. Thank you very much!"
