I've been tapped, as a representative of Alchemical, to be a judge in the Green of the Crop "competition" by the NY Creative Core.

In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day,
New York’s Creative Core is looking to highlight
Central Upstate New York’s greenest endeavors.

Are you secretly the greenest on your block?
Do you know someone who is? Nominate yourself, a friend, your family, a business, your neighbor,or your school/community organization, and you both could win!  Deadline is April 9, 2010, 5:00 p.m. (EST)

There are categories for businesses, educational and community organizations, individuals or households, and inventor innovator or entrepreneur.

I know, I know, before anyone gets cranky, I'll say it for you:  How do you define green?  Can business or capitol enterprise ever be considered green? The questions could go on and on.

What I think will be interesting about this project is to understand just what people think of when they think "green".  We'll be getting, hopefully, nominations from lots of people, including those in the general public, or not normally considered "in the know" as far as green might be concerned by the/us co-called experts.

In any case, it's a chance to learn what people think when they think green, and a chance to promote your project or partner or place or Glossary Link permaculture design perhaps, or whatever.

And if this helps you participate, there are prizes for the winners, and the top nominators:

PRIZES

Nominees:

  • 1st place winners in each category will receive $150.00, a profile in the May 18th issue of Green CNY magazine, and an invitation to a recognition ceremony.
  • 2nd & 3rd place winners in each category will receive mention in Green CNY Magazine and an invitation to the recognition ceremony.

Nominators:

  • Nominators of the top 3 finalists in each category will be eligible for a random drawing of gift certificates donated by local businesses.
