Implementing the 2011 Permaculture Design Open

The Community Permaculture Open Design is intended to bring free and innovative Permaculture design to the needs of regional economic and community development. Help us create and design a free harvest “Snack Garden” at the Rahma Health Clinic, based upon an edible forest garden model using Permaculture methodologies.  Join the Advisory Committee to oversee the Design Open process and the eventual implementation and planting (other tasks include fundraising, volunteer recruitment and promotions).

Organizing a Permaculture Guild Committee and/or the 2011 “Education and Release” Workshop Series

The Syracuse Permaculture Guild is a volunteer work share and educational exchange for the facilitation of a Permaculture and Homesteading culture in urban Syracuse and surrounding peri-urban and rural communities.  Help us grow this network through organizing an organizational committee, and events such as the 2011 “Education and Release” workshop series.

Creating Permaculture related art images

Alchemical produces a number of print brochures and flyers, as well as an online website and publications such as our Annual Report.  We are always in need of fresh and original artistic content and materials to help with promotions, marketing, and getting the gang excited about what we are doing.  Can you contribute some creative juices and flow to our scene?  Spend time at the Gear Factory Artists Studio Warehouse with us.  All volunteer creative works will be licensed under the Creative Commons and be attributed to you in all uses.

Creation of a slideshow presentation and table display

Got PowerPoint skills and/or display design skills?  We need assistance and time to help us develop a slideshow presentation that will wow them (who’s ‘them’ you ask?  ‘Them’ is ‘they’ that need to hear our message!  ‘Them’ is not the choir); as well as a portable display design for tabling at events, shows, and festivals.  Help us design the concepts, the materials, the art, and the demonstrations.

Mapping Permaculture, Intentional Community, and Progressive Place Projects

One goal of the Alchemical Nursery is to develop and strengthen the Permaculture, Intentional Community and Ecovillage movement in Syracuse and Upstate CNY.  To do this we need to develop a database and map of currently undergoing sites and activities across the region.  Do you have mapping skills, or just like maps in general?  We can use a platform as simple as Google Maps even.  Let’s visually show what a complex network we are developing here in Syracuse, and bring geographically dispersed individuals, families, projects, and intentional communities together in the process.

The Alchemical Nursery website is only as valuable as the content it contains.  Join us in writing newsflashes and feature articles under your own by-line; increase your published name recognition.  Become a moderator and help grow our blogging community and progressive social profile network of over 220 individuals registered on our site as an urban think-tank resource for urban homesteading and sustainable living.

Drafting an Employee/Volunteer Handbook

Every good organization that gets things done has some sort of internal organization that helps facilitate the good work.  Alchemical is in need of a Handbook to orient new interns and volunteers, and provide them with the information they need to succeed on a day-to-day basis.  Like to write, want to learn more about Alchemical in the process?  Join us in creating this document that will be very important to our future.

Joining the Board of Directors

Interested individuals with experience in consensus leadership, community development, accounting and bookkeeping, fund raising, and a passion or predilection for the Permaculture, Ecovillage and Intentional Community movement should send a resume and cover letter.  A 2 year commitment is required
