1] Build With Earth Postponed: Education & Release Series

The Build With Earth workshop scheduled for Saturday May 7 has been postponed, and will be rescheduled at a later date.  Delays in the site’s construction schedule, materials acquisition, and weather patterns is forcing the move to a date later in the year.  To be placed on the registration list to be notified directly when the new date is chosen, please send an email to info@alchemicalnusery.org.

Our April workshops have resulted in the construction of an herb spiral with Valerie Dawnstar, herbal medicine creation with NickCavanaugh and Adrienne Allen, a yurt raising with Josh Morrow, and Glossary Link permaculture site preparation through sheet mulching with Dorothy Goodman and Frank Cetera.  Currently, pictures and video of some of these activities are available at our Facebook pagehttp://www.facebook.com/AlchemicalNursery

We’ve been very pleased to share these moments with many of you and hope you will be able to join us for The Work That Reconnects - the Education & Release Series’ final offering on June 11.  More at http://www.alchemicalnursery.org/news/358-education-a-release-series-practicing-synergy.html

2] Edible Forest Garden Working Group Forming

A Working Group is currently forming to implement the Edible Forest Garden project at the Rahma Clinic.  Our first meeting will take place on Monday May 9, starting at 6:30 pm and will take place at the clinic on 3100 South Salina St, Syracuse.  We will work together to determine a planting plan, resource acquisition and allocation for the site, outreach, and event/planting dates and timeline.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn Permaculture and forest garden design and construction skills through an experiential process.  Please join us if you are interested in participating, or contact Frank with any questions at frcetera@alchemicalnursery.org or 315-308-1372

“Edible forest gardening is the art and science of putting plants together in woodlandlike patterns that forge mutually beneficial relationships, creating a garden ecosystem that is more than the sum of its parts. You can grow fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs, mushrooms, and other useful plants, in a way that mimics natural ecosystems. You can create a beautiful, diverse, high-yield garden. If designed with care and deep understanding of ecosystem function, you can also design a garden that is largely self-maintaining.”

4] Stop Signs: Cars and Capitalism Book Tour

On the Road to Economic, Social and Ecological Decay with authors Yves Engler and Bianca Mugyenyi.  Co-Sponsored by The Alchemical Nursery, The Green Party, and Bikes4Peace/Syracuse Peace Council to be held at Artrage Gallery (505 Hawley Ave) Friday May 20 starting at 7 pm.    View the flyer at our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/AlchemicalNursery

The authors argue that the automobile's ascendance is inextricably linked to capitalism and involved corporate malfeasance, political intrigue, backroom payoffs, media manipulation, racism, academic corruption, third world coups, secret armies, environmental destruction and war. An anti-car, road-trip story, a must-read for all those who wish to escape the clutches of auto insanity.

(p.s. Congratulations to Bikes4Peace as the Winner of the Spring DISHES grant award here in Syracuse!)

5] Themselves Has Been A Gathering at the Redhouse

Join Artist Tina Zagyva, Quinta Essentia Fiscally Sponsored artist of the Alchemical nursery, for the unveiling of her magnus opus “Themselves Has Been A Gathering” on Thursday May 19th!

“The narrative has an over-arching plot, one in which human civilization has ultimately changed due to human technological creations that have infused with the body, creating a new human. Civilization, history, culture.... all has been forgotten in this future world as the technological Glossary Link infusion split cognition, rendering human beings incapable of self-recognition. During the split, human beings no longer had self awareness, they become aimless wanderers living on a primal instinct.”
Starting at the Redhouse on West Fayette St; Dactylodida, a short Film, will be on view from 5pm until 7:30pm. Endophora, printed images from the narrative, will be on display in the gallery.  8pm - ? at Lipe Art Park will be a THEATRICAL EVENT with the Installation of 3 Vessels (outside) as well as a live future history re-enactment. Fluorescent Fields will create a live musical score as you walk the set of a future human history.

The Facebook event page is loacted at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=106126552808810
