Permaculture Collective

The Syracuse Permaculture and Urban Homesteading Collective is a co-created community for Permaculture work/skill shares and educational exchange.  Formed around the development of the Upstate NY Permaculture Gathering held for the 1st time in Syracuse on March 13, 2010, the Collective has gone on to host numerous community activities designed to support the sharing of Permaculture education and skills - including Hugelkultur gardening, Visions of Utopia film screening and discussion, rain barrel construction, community potlucks, Community Training in Ecological Design course, and more.

In addition, as of Summer 2012, there are currently two urban Permaculture Sites in development through the implementation of the collective, with a goal of developing additional sites on a yearly basis.

1. The Rahma Edible Forest Snack Garden at 3100 South Salina St is a 1/5 acre edible food forest.
2. 717 Otisco St is a 1/10 acre urban lot single-family residential home garden and yard.
3. Plans are in the works to facilitate a third site in 2013 using funds from the recent IndieGoGo fundraising campaign, and our award winning entry for the summer 2012 DISHES competition in Syracuse.

To participate and learn more:

• REGULAR SCHEDULED LABOR.  Commit your manual labor to the Collective by spending any period of time on a regular interval at one of the sites doing weeding, watering, infrastructure care, and other tasks as determined as needed.  Sign up by contacting This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. • ORGANIZE WITH US.  Become a core organizer with the Collective and the Alchemical Nursery.  Come to regular meetings, involve yourself in the management and planning of sites, fundraising, work day oversight, organizational administration, etc.
